In four decades, Zagreb Film of Yugoslavia produced 600 animated films, winning more than 400 international awards. The studio quickly became famous for a unique animation style that became known as the "Zagreb School".One of the pioneering distinctions was that its filmmakers wrote, designed, and directed their own films, resulting in boldly entertaining cartoons unified in design, tone, and message.
Be Careful What You Wish For -- Fourteen stories of irony, double cross, and mystery. Some are hilarious, some poignant, all memorable. Big Time -- A piggy-bank runs away from a boy who was just about to smash it. Curiosity --A film about human curiosity - an affliction for which no cure has ever been found. Musical Pig --A comical story of an operatic pig who finally finds a friend, but at a price. Okay! --A boisterously entertaining cartoon demonstrating that in the war between the sexes, nothing is as it first appears. Elegy --A prisoner is given hope by the growth of a single red flower he views from behind the bars of his cell's small window. The Fifth One -- A harmonious quartet confronts an indestructible pest - the tuba player. The Wall --A wall blocks the path of two people. Prayer -- Good luck, bad luck -- they both come quickly in this brief gem. Paranoia -- A hero is hunted through the dark streets of the city. The Ceremony -- Six people are grouped and regrouped in front of a wall, as if for a phototgraph. But all is not as it seems. The Classic Collection -- These seven animated films are representative of Zagreb's most unique offerings.Includes the Oscar-winner ERSATZ (1961, Best Short Animated Film). Ersatz -- A story of a tourist on a beach who "inflates" an entire village.A passionate love develops, provoking jealousy, vengeance, and finally tragedy.
