First-year head coach Bill Callahan guided the 2002 Oakland Raiders to an 11-5 regular season record and their third straight AFC West crown. Led by MVP Rich Gannon, the Raiders won their fourth AFC Championship and appeared in their fifth Super Bowl. As the leader of the NFL's top ranked offense (6,237 yards), Gannon set the mark for completions (418), 300-yard passing games (10), consecutive completions in a single game (21), and led the league in passing yards (4,475). Future Hall of Fame receivers Jerry Rice and Tim Brown reached milestones of their own. Rice became the all-time leader on all-purpose yards (22,242) and the first player to reach the 200 touchdown plateau, while Brown joined rice with 1000 career receptions. Behind an offensive line that produced two pro bowlers, running back Charlie Garner scored 11 touchdowns and was the only NFL player to accumulate over 900 yards rushing and receiving. Defensive tackle Roderick Coleman finished third in the AFC with 11 sacks. Future Hall of Famer Rod Woodson tied for the league lead with 8 interceptions, and extended his own NFL record for interceptions returns for touchdowns to 12.
