A Seductive Spectacle of Historic Proportions!
Each night Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt (Sophia Loren), gives herself to the officer who guards her door-the following day she has him poisoned. For this reason no one wants to do guard duty anymore, but Cesarino (Alberto Sordi), a naive officer who has just arrived from abroad, considers the assignment an honor. That night Cleopatra leaves her quarters and has a slave girl, Nisca (also played by Sophia Loren), take her place. Unaware of the switch, Cesarino reappears the next morning to the astonishment of his fellow soldiers. But when an enemy of Egypt plots to assassinate the Queen, Cesarino is wrongfully accused of the crime. Now in order to prove his innocence and find true love, he must sort out the identities of everyone involved.
