A Music Video Tribute To Planet Earth

In 1990, I was commissioned to create a long-form music video to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Earth Day.The Wonderful Planet is the result.

After a montage opening, we begin at the edge of the known Universe and make a seven-minute journey to a very special world, third from an average star, yet the only known residence of life in the Universe.

From there we look at our planet's landforms from the wind-sculpted rocks of Bryce Canyon to icebergs calving off the frozen shores of the Ross Ice Shelf."Endangered Species" was photographed mostly in Africa and includes many magnificent animals, which our grandchildren may never see, in the wild.

"Forest of the Amazon" is my personal favorite of the more than 50 long-form music videos I've created.As you will see, it was devilishly hard to photograph and even harder to synchronize the action to the beatless impressionistic music of Villa Lobos.Following that is a salute to the beauty of flowers, nature's porvender stored in the brightest of places.

"A World of Color" reminds us of the sheer beauty of our home world while the grand finale sums up the overwhelming grandeur of a place called Earth.

The Wonderful Planet was shot on 35 mm film and transferred directly to digital video tape.The Dolby Surround sound is 20 bit, 48K, 128x oversampled, giving it a huge dynamic range.Wait until you hear the sound of thunder on your subwoofer!-Don Barrett
