Includes 5 Guys Named Moe

The "father of rhythm and blues", Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five perform their chart-topping hits in this special collection of rare "soundies" (video jukeboxes popular in the 1930s and 40's.)Jordan's unmatched showmanship as a musician, band leader and vocalist developed from his early performances with The Rabbit Foot Minstrels and later playing alto sax with the Chick Webb, Charlie Gaines and Clarence Williams orchestras.

After forming the Tympany Five in 1939, Jordan enjoyed a string of successes that would span nearly two decades and influence such emerging artists as Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Johnny Otis and James Brown.

Among the band's sidemen were several outstanding musicians including Wild Bill Davis, Bill Doggett, Shadow Wilson, and Bill Hadnott.

Jordan's hits "Five Guys Named Moe" and "Caledonia", an excerpt from one of Jordan's many film appearances, demonstrate his trademark styling of romping horns, far-reaching vocals, and comedic entertainment.

In 1987 Louis Jordan's legacy was officially recognized when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.Karen Kennedy
