Jazz Festival: Volume 1

In the early 1960's, the Goodyear Tire Company commissioned 5 short jazz films. It was part promotional device, part goodwill gesture. In both regards, it was successful.

The programs were originally filmed on 35mm negative. The sound was recorded in professional sterei, However, the shows were presented in 16mm with a mono track. Over the years, the prints faded to pink, because of an unstable color print stock. What was once an extremely professional, good looking endeavor, now liked like the most out of date historic relic.

Storyville Films has taken the original source material for this video presentation. The original 35mm source has been transferred to videotape and the original stereo masters have been sunk up to the picture. Now you will see the gorgeous details and excellent sound that was captured in the early sixties. These films now stand as some of the most technically advanced of jazz films, featuring some irreplaceable music.
