The Long Tall Texans: Blood, Sweat and Beers

The Long Tall Texans hailed from Brighton and became one of the best-loved bands on the Psychobilly scene. Their knack of delivering melodic, sing-a-long songs with manic intensity garnered them a following of rocking folk hell bent on having a few (too many) beers and a bloody good laugh. Why the Texans became so enduring lies squarely in the fact that, on-stage, they always seemed to be having a good time. With the ever smiling Mark Carew trapped behind his double bass, wailing manic mutant rockabilly lines backed by the ever reliable guitar trickster Mark Denman both supported by the solid voodoo rhythms of drummer Theo, the Texans were as charismatic as they were tuneful.

This DVD features two concerts recorded four years apart. The first "Blood Sweat and Beers," was filmed at the Hummingbird Club, Birmingham in front of several thousand quiff headed beer monsters during the legendary "Night of the Long Knives" concert in 1988. The second, a slightly more intimate but no less chaotic affair, was recorded at Billy's Stoke on Trent in 1992. The two programmes cover most of the Texans' best loved songs, whilst capturing the sheer balls out fun of one of their gigs. As a bonus there is also a special live/promo clip of get Get Back Wet Back, culled from the Hummingbird footage. So sit back, crack-open a beer and, in the immortal words of Mark Carew, "Slap that bass 'till it breaks into pieces."
