Norman and Nancy Blake evoke a sometimes haunting, sometimes serene slice of Americana. Their repertoire consists of traditional American rural acoustic songs of incomparable purity and integrity, masterfully performed by Norman and Nancy on vintage era guitars, fiddles, cellos and other stringed instruments. They cover a broad spectrum of early country music, ranging from Carter Family style vocals to fiddle band instrumentals.

High in the hills of northwest Georgie, Norman and Nancy carry on the tradition of old-time country music like a master craftsman preserving an endangered art form. Their devotion to rural acoustic music from the 1930s and 40s surfaces not only in their song selection, but also in how the songs are performed. "We're after a tone, a feel, a texture that's completely removed from today's world." says Norman. The Blake's uncluttered style is derived from a deliberate attempt to play only those notes the song dictates. "Just because you can play a lot of notes," continues Norman, "doesn't mean you should. If you put in too much, you're a technician, not a musician."
