A six hour DVD archive of the legendary New York theatrical collective, Mabou Mines, at work on their fully gender-reversed production of Shakespeare's "King Lear," directed by Lee Breuer and featuring Ruth Maleczech as Lear. Here is the theatrical process - superb, seasoned radical artists tackling what is probably the most patriarchal play in the English language, testing it to see what would happen to power relations and lines of affection when all the roles were gender-reversed. Mabou Mines' Lear won four Village Voice OBIEs when it opened in New York.
