Adaptation of the novel "Tim", about the love that develops between a mentally challenged young man and the older, lonely widow who takes him under her wing. When Mary hires Tim to take care of her garden, a wonderful, but sometimes painful, process begins. Mary teaches Tim how to read and Tim breathes life back into Mary's soul. That is Mary's dilemma, and Tim is at the center of it.

Although they come from opposing political families, star-crossed teens attempt a lasting romance based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Because of a fight at a game, Ronnie is transferred to another school. The Cappells won't put through his phone calls, and the Monroes hide Julie's letters.
