Shirley Temple: The Little Princess

Ian Hunter is a single, British Army Captain called to fight the Boer War. He leaves his daughter at a strict boarding school where he has instructed the school-mistress to take special care of her regardless of cost, giving her the nick-name "The Princess."
When Hunter goes missing, the school-mistress is told that he is dead, and makes life miserable for little Shirley Temple.
